Felipe González

Felipe González became Europe's youngest Head of Government at age 40 in 1982. Behind his astute leadership skills and political acumen, Gonzalez was elected to an unprecedented four consecutive terms as Prime Minister of Spain. He has been awarded numerous national and international prizes, among them the Charlemagne Prize, the Necklace of the Order of Isabel the Catholic and the Great Cross of Gold from the Republic of Austria. He is a member of the Circle of Montevideo, the InterAcción Council and the Shimon Peres International Council for Peace. He currently heads the Madrid based Global Progress Foundation (FPG).

To date, he remains the longest-serving Prime Minister of the Spanish government. Felipe González was Special Representative of the EU to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1998 and has presided over the World Progressive Commission of the Socialist International. During his tenure in office, he pushed the nation into an era of economic growth it had not seen for over half a century, culminating in a successful integration into the European Union.
